Playing for the Planet 2025 Impact Report - showcasing a year of industry collaboration and environmental action

Today we’ve published our 2025 Impact Report, highlighting another year of collective progress as the global games industry continues to work together to accelerate decarbonisation and inspire players to take action for the planet.

This year, the Green Game Jam reached an estimated 235 million daily active users across 47 participating titles, with in-game activations helping to raise $284,486 for nature causes. We also welcomed 12 new Alliance members, while 95% of members said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their experience of being part of Playing for the Planet.

The report also highlights significant progress in supporting members on their decarbonisation journeys. Following the publication of new target-setting guidance alongside of the Alliance's studio-tailored Carbon Calculator, eight member transition plans are now in active development, helping studios turn climate ambition into practical action.

Beyond tools and guidance, we continued to strengthen collaboration across the industry. The 2025 Green Games Summit brought together 100 practitioners from games, academia and civil society to share new research, practical insights and emerging best practice. Meanwhile, research conducted with the University of Edinburgh, Wooga, Trailmix and SYBO engaged more than 58,000 players to better understand how environmental messages can drive meaningful engagement.

The report also showcases the Alliance's presence at gamescom 2025, where its Epix sustainability quest generated more than 590,000 impressions, encouraging attendees to discover the environmental initiatives of participating companies across the show floor.

Looking ahead, we will continue to build on this momentum throughout 2026. Priorities include expanding support for member decarbonisation, developing guidance on the environmental implications of artificial intelligence in games, growing player engagement through the Green Game Jam's "Reefs and Rainforests" theme, and convening the industry once again at the Green Games Summit.

As the challenges facing both people and the planet continue to evolve, the report demonstrates that collaboration across the games industry can deliver meaningful, measurable impact and that together, the sector has an important role to play in building a more sustainable future.
